When I work with parents, my goal is to help them help their kids feel seen and loved and supported for exactly who they are. This is hard work. It means we have to set aside our own expectations (and projections). It means we have to listen more and talk less. It means we have to be willing to hear the good and the bad times.

My own first born is away at college. Both she and her roommate have moms with the same name. :) They decided to post this reminder on their bathroom mirror. I'm honored and grateful that I made this important list. When she's sad, I'll be right here on the other side of the phone, ready to listen.
